Hana Ichi Monme
Also known as 花一匁 (Hana Ichi Monme), One Flower One Monme
Two singing teams negotiate and steal players from each other through rock-paper-scissors until one team has everyone.
How to play
Players split into two equal teams and hold hands in parallel lines facing each other.
Teams take turns stepping toward and back while singing their lines of the traditional song, one team sings a wish, the other responds.
After the song, each team huddles privately and names one player from the opposing team they want.
Both teams reveal their chosen name simultaneously.
The two named players face off in rock-paper-scissors.
The loser crosses to the winning team's line.
Repeat from the song until all players are in one team.
Keep it fair
If both teams call the same player's name, that player is allowed to choose which team to join, this avoids a deadlock and gives the named child a moment of agency.
