The rules

How to play

1

Split into two equal teams (5, 7 per side) and mark a centre line dividing the court in two.

2

Teams take turns sending one raider across the line.

3

The raider must chant 'kabaddi kabaddi' continuously on a single breath the whole time they are on the other side.

4

The raider tries to tag one or more defenders and sprint back across the centre line before running out of breath or being wrestled down.

5

Tagged defenders sit out; if the raider is held until they break the chant or run out of breath, the raider is out.

6

Eliminated players return one at a time whenever their team scores.

7

Team with the most points when all players have raided wins.

Keep it fair

Appoint a neutral referee or use a simple rule: if the raider's mouth stops forming 'kabaddi' sounds, even for a second, they are out, no argument needed.
