The rules

How to play

1

Mark a rectangle with a central lane connecting two end poles.

2

Nine players from the chasing team take the field: eight sit in a row in the central lane facing alternating directions; one active chaser stands in a free zone at one end.

3

Three defenders enter the field and try to avoid being touched.

4

The active chaser runs to touch a defender; they may not cross the central lane, so to change direction they tap a sitting teammate from behind and shout 'Kho!', that teammate leaps up and becomes the new active chaser, while the first chaser takes their seat.

5

A tagged defender leaves the field and a new defender enters.

6

Teams swap chasing and defending roles after a set time; the team that tags all defenders fastest wins.

Keep it fair

The active chaser must visibly tap a sitting teammate from behind before changing direction, a front or side tap does not count, so there is no ambiguity about role transfers.
