The rules

How to play

1

All players form a tight circle holding hands.

2

One child stands inside.

3

That child moves around the inside of the circle tapping and testing pairs of joined hands, while the group sings a call-and-response song listing local place names.

4

The trapped child is looking for the weakest handhold.

5

When they find it, they push through, break free, and run.

6

The child whose grip was broken becomes the new person inside the circle.

7

Players holding hands must resist but keep the circle intact as long as possible.

Keep it fair

Agree before starting: only the trapped player may break out, circle players must not deliberately open their hands to let them through.
