Red Rover
Also known as British Bulldog (chain variant), Octopus, Forcing the City Gates (China), Rover (UK)
Two lines of linked players take turns calling someone over to break the chain.
How to play
Divide into two equal teams facing each other about 10 metres apart, each team holding hands in a line.
Team A chants 'Red Rover, Red Rover, send [name] right over'.
The named player from Team B runs full speed at Team A's chain and tries to break through any two linked hands.
If they break through, they take one of those players back to Team B.
If they fail to break through, they join Team A.
Teams alternate calls.
The team that collects all the players wins.
Keep it fair
Agree on the grip rule before playing, many groups use a rule that wrist grips (not hand grips) are required, making chain breaks fairer and reducing wrist injuries.
