A circle game where a silent walker drops a handkerchief behind an unsuspecting child while everyone sings, then comes a chase.
How to play
Players sit in a tight circle.
One player (the Plumpsack) walks slowly around the outside, carrying a knotted handkerchief or piece of clothing.
Everyone sings the rhyme.
The rule: no-one may turn around and look behind them.
The Plumpsack quietly drops the handkerchief behind any child; that child must notice (by touch or intuition), grab it, and chase the Plumpsack around the circle before they reach the empty seat.
If the Plumpsack takes the seat safely, the chaser becomes the new Plumpsack.
Keep it fair
No looking back while sitting is the sacred rule, appoint a neutral referee to call out peekers rather than letting other players argue.
